Bake With Me's Baking Club is the first of it's kind here in Tauranga (and maybe even New Zealand!). It's designed for children in Years 4-8 who would love a fun after school activity to be a part of but perhaps after school music or sports isn't their thing. It's also great for parents who would love to encourage their children to bake, but don't want to clean up the mess!

Each week, students will learn the basics of baking from scratch and various cake decorating skills. They'll learn how to work as part of a small team and most importantly, they'll have a fun time getting hands-on in the kitchen baking something delicious.

Classes will be held at Heather's home studio in Gate Pa. At this stage, Baking Club is on a Wednesday afternoon from 4-5.30pm but due to the huge amount of interest we receive, we'll possible be adding extra classes as time goes on and would love to add a class based over towards the Mount/Papamoa.

Intakes for students will only be at the beginning of each term, and numbers will be strictly limited. If you want to know when the next intake is, ensure you're signed up to our mailing list as you'll receive an email each time bookings go live.

“[My child] thoroughly enjoyed her time at Baking Club during Term 2. She acquired new baking skills and created some delicious treats. I highly recommend it to parents with children interested in baking, or simply as a way to get the kids out of the house and socializing!”

  • What will students do/learn at Baking Club? Do they get to take something home each week?
You will be amazed at what the students will learn and make in a reasonably short period of time. Students will work in pairs or in small groups each week to bake something that they get to take home. We'll read a recipe and practice measuring accurately using cup measurements and scales. We'll do both sweet and savoury baking that teaches a specific skill set, as well as using fondant, buttercream and chocolate decorations to make our creations beautiful. We will also learn about using kitchen equipment safely, and the importance of cleaning up! Each week we’ll bake something to take home, but also most weeks will learn a cake decorating skill and create pieces for the end of term epic cake project (eg fondant decorations). Week 1: Cake & cake design. Week 2: Bread Week 3: Cupcakes Week 4: Savoury Muffins Week 5: Slice/brownies Week 6: Pastry Week 7: Cookies/biscuits Week 8: Final project- icing on the cake- Buttercream and Fondant. Every term we'll teach the same set of skills but with different recipes. This reinforces everything they're learning and gives them confidence to try it by themselves.
  • When & Where is Baking Club?
This term we’re running one class on a Wednesday 4pm- 5.30pm. This time has changed from previous years. It runs for 8 weeks of each term starting week 2. The classes are happening at my home studio in Gate Pa. The address will be provided before the first class. It’s most likely we’ll launch other classes at other times & locations but this is it at this stage.
  • What does it cost? What's included?
Baking Club is $45 a week with one week free if you pay for all the weeks up front. Each class is an hour and a half. Unlike sports or music lessons, there are NO other costs involved (no uniform etc.) & each week you'll be able to take something delicious home.
  • Who is Baking Club for?
Baking Club is for students in Years 4-8 who have an interest in baking or cake decorating. They don't need to have any experience, it's for all abilities. It's also for the parents who want to encourage their children to learn these skills but don't want a messy kitchen! Children can make like-minded friends who also love baking! For safety reasons, at this stage only students in Years 4-8 are able to come to Baking Club, no exceptions I'm sorry.
  • How do the terms work? Can I join at anytime?
Baking Club runs for 8 weeks of each term starting week 2. Each term is different so you can join one or all and not worry about repeating any recipes. Sorry, bookings are only open for a limited time before each term. Bookings will generally close a week before each block as there is a lot of preparation for each class and a lot of thought goes into creating a programme for a specific group of students. If you want to join next term then fill out the form at the bottom of the page expressing your interest.
  • How do I book? What are the payment options?
Easy! Head to the bottom of this page & select whether you'd like to pay weekly or the term upfront. A follow up booking form is sent to you via email so Heather can begin to get to know your child. I will only book one term in advance at a time so keep an eye out for an email when bookings go live! VIP list members will find out at least 24 hours before the general public. Click here to sign up.
  • Who is the teacher?
Hi, I'm Heather, the sole owner/operator of Bake With Me. I'm a fully registered Primary School Teacher with passion and experience of baking all things delicious and beautiful. I taught in schools in both New Zealand and Australia for 10 years before pursuing my passion of baking. I sold baking at markets and did events and weddings before finalising realising I could combine my 2 passions to bring you Bake With Me & Baking Club. I have a current police check & first-aid certificate and welcome you to contact me if you have any further questions> You can also check out the about me page for more info on me and my family.
  • Can students with allergies do Baking Club?
As much as I would love to, due to the collaborative nature of the baking we do at Baking Club, I am unable to offer any gluten free, dairy free or egg free options. Please contact Heather at hello@bakewithme.co.nz before booking to discuss any other allergies.
